Murukku

Murukku

Murukku is a very popular evening snack .It's a deep fried crispy snack made with rice flour and urad dal flour.There are many varieties of this snack can be made.

Ingredients and Measurements Used
    • 2 tsp-Urad Dal
    • 11/2 cup-Roasted rice powder

    • 1/2 tsp-Sesame seeds
    • 1/2 tsp- Cumin seeds
    • 1/2 tsp- Red chili powder
    • 1/4 tsp-Asafoetida powder
    • 1 tsp-oil(For making the dough)
    • Water-As required (For making the dough)
    • Salt - As required
    • Oil for deep frying
    Required 
    • Murukku maker(We can use idiyappam maker)
      with  this achu
    • Large bowl
    • Deep pan
    Preparation
    1. Dry roast  urad dal until it become light brown color. Now turn off the heat and let it cool.After that Grind it into fine powder.
    2. Now in a large bowl add rice powder, urad dal powder,sesame seeds,cumin seeds,red chili powder,asafoetida powder and salt and mix well.
    3. Now add 1 tsp oil and mix well.
    4. Then add water little by little to make a smooth dough like a chapathi dough.(Take lukewarm water for making the dough)
    Method
    1. Heat oil in a deep pan.
    2. Grease the murukku maker  and fill it with the dough.
    3. Press it to make spirals either on a butter paper or flat holed ladle.
    4. When the oil is hot , place the ladle in the hot oil or remove the spiral and transfer it gently in the hot oil.
    5. Fry until it becomes golden color. 
    6. Take them out and drain them on a kitchen tissue to remove excess oil.
    7. Store them in an airtight container.
