Aval Vilayichathu/Flattered rice snack




This is a very popular evening snack  usually serve  with tea/coffee.It is a very easy to make this recipe.

Ingredients and Measurements Needed


  • 2 cup- Flattered rice/Aval
  • 1 table spoon-Sesame seeds(black) 
  • 1 cup-Grated Jaggery
  • 1 cup-Grated Coconut
  • 1tsp-Ghee(optional)
Method


  1. Roast the sesame seeds in ghee in a pan and keep it aside but it's optional we can use it without roasting also.
  2. Melt jaggery with 1/2 cup water until it becomes slightly thick.
  3. Strain the melted jaggery mixture into a pan.
  4. Now heat the pan and add grated coconut into it.
  5. When the mixture starts to bubble/boil,add the flattered rice into it and mix well using a spatula .
  6. Now turn off the heat.
  7. Then add the sesame seeds and ghee mix well.
  8. Transfer the prepared snack into a serving plate.
  9. Serve with ripened banana slices(optional).

Cabbage Thoran

Cabbage Thoran

Thoran is a coconut based vegetable dish. This popular and common dish is usually eaten with steamed rice.

Ingredients and Measurements Needed


  • 1 no- Cabbage
  • 4 nos- Garlic cloves/optional
  • 4 nos-Green chilies
  • 1/4 tsp-Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 cup-Grated Coconut
  • 2 tsp-oil
  • 1 tsp-mustard seeds
  • 2 nos-Dried red chilies
  • 10-12 nos-Curry leaves
  • Salt required

Method


  1. Cut the cabbage into small pieces or grate the cabbage using a grater.
  2. Chop garlic,green chilies into small pieces
  3. Now mix cabbage,green chilies,garlic,grated coconut,turmeric powder and salt  and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
  4. Now heat a pan and add oil into it.
  5. When the oil is hot splutter the mustard seeds and add dried red chilies and curry leaves and saute for 1 second.
  6. Now add the cabbage mix and give a stir using a spatula.
  7. Then keep the flame in medium and cook it for 10-15 minutes until it's done.No need to cover.
  8. Keep mixing the thoran in regular intervals in these 10-15 minutes.
  9. Switch off the flame and transfer it into a serving plate.
  10. Serve thoran with steamed rice.
