Daal and Okra Curry(Parippu and Vendakka Curry)
This is a very simple curry.It is good accompaniment with steamed rice.The consistency of this dish is medium thick .
Ingredients & Measurements Used
- 4 or 5 Okras
- 1/4 cup Toor daal
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp Red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup Grated Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
For seasoning
- 2-3 Dry Red Chilies
- 6-7 Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Coconut Oil
- Cut okras into pieces.
- Heat little oil in a pan and shallow fry the okras.(If wanted ,can add some salt into this)
- Keep aside the fried okras.
- Now wash the daal.
- Then pressure cook the daal with some turmeric powder,salt and water.(usually it takes 5-10 minutes).
- Meanwhile grind the grated coconut,cumin seeds ,turmeric powder and chilli powder with some water to smooth paste .
- Now add this coconut paste and fried okras and some lukewarm water into the cooked daal and mix well .
- Cook for another 3-4 minutes.Stir it in regular intervals, otherwise it may get burn.
- Now switch off the flame,Curry is ready!
- Heat a tsp of oil in a pan , add mustard seeds, when it starts to splutter, add dry red chilies and curry leaves and saute for 10 seconds.
- Pour this tempering over the curry and mix well.
- Transfer the prepared curry into a serving bowl!
