Pumpkin Payasam /
Pumpkin Sweet with Coconut Milk and Jaggery
Payasam is a delicious South Asian desert.It is an essential sweet dish for all celebrations.This desert is usually made with rice or vermicelli and milk,or with lentils or fruits and coconut milk and sweetened with jaggery or sugar.
Here I am making this payasam with pumpkin,coconut milk and jaggery.
Ingredients and Measurements Used
- 1 pumpkin
- 125 gms Jaggery
- 2 cup- Coconut milk(1 1/2 cup thin Coconut milk and 1/2 cup thick Coconut milk)
- 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
- 1 tsp dried ginger powder
- 1/4 cup coconut pieces
- 12-14 cashew nuts
- 1/4 cup sultanas
- 1 tsp- ghee/butter/oil
- Salt a pinch
- Clean and cut the pumpkin into pieces and cook it with required water.
- Mash the cooked pumpkin.
- Melt the jaggery with 1/2 cup water.
- Now add the mashed pumpkin into the melted jaggery.
- Mix well in regular intervals and cook it in low flame until the mixture becomes thick.
- Now add the coconut milk and mix well
- Cook it for few more minutes in low flame until the payasam gets desired thickness.
- Now add the powders and mix well.
- Payasam is almost ready.
- For seasoning,heat a pan and add ghee/butter/oil .
- First roast coconut pieces .
- Then add cashew nuts and sultanas into it and roast .
- Season the payasam with this and mix well.
- Yummy Pumpkin Payasam is now ready!Serve it hot or cold .
